Breaking news: Allan's latest CD, "Hotels and Dreamers" has been nominated for the "Preis der Deutschen Schallplaten Kritik", Germany's equivalent to the British Mercury Prize (and America's Grammy). Also, look for the German Magazine Folker which has given the CD an excellent review (will be translated and posted on this page) and has nominated it for CD of the year. The official release date in U.K. will be sometime in February.

The first German reviews of Hotels and Dreamers have come out (below, in German and English) - Germany's most important Hi-fi Magazine, Stereo Play, has chosen it as CD of the month (January).
We're looking at February 2004 as the official release date in Britain.

Mit den Alexanders und Daniels dieser Popwelt möchte der grauhaarige Brite keinesfalls mehr um Chartpositionen rangeln.
Sein drittes Album für das kultisch verehrte audiophile Label ist vom ersten Laut an pure Klangschönheit und konsistente Ambition zugleich. Unendlich geschmackvoll umfangen sich die warmen Töne von Stimme, Akustikgitarren, Bass und Strings. Wer Mark Knopflers Solos mag, wird mit Allans wie aus dem Raum-Zeit-Kontinuum gefallenen Folksongs ganz sicher glücklich. Ein meisterhaftes Album neben dem Trend.

His 3rd album for the venerated audiophile cult-label is, from the very first note, a tour-de-force of tonal beauty and consistent ambition. The warm tones of the voice, acoustic guitars, bass and strings combine in an incredibly tasteful embrace. Those who enjoy Mark Knopfler's solo works will be more than happy with Allan's songs, which seem to exist outside of the space-time-continuum. A masterful album, far above the trend.

In den Zeiten fixer Fließbandproduktionen für die Charts wirkt das Album des Endfünfzigers fast außerirdisch. Jeder Song atmet wohltuende künstlerische Prätention, jeder Gitarrenfigur Hingabe, jedes Arrangement den Willen zur Perfektion. Mit ungeheuer kristallinem wie warmen Sound sinken die melancholischen Songs des Troubadours mit der sonoren Stimme ins Langzeitgedächtnis. Da könnte man die Heizung eigentlich abschalten.
In this age of made-for-the-charts assembly-line productions, this album is almost extraterrestrial. Every song breathes artistic ambition, every guitar passage devotion, each arrangement the will to perfection. With an amazingly crystalline yet warm sound, the troubadour's sonorous voice imbeds each song in the listener's long-term memory. One could actually turn off the central heating.
The tour was a great success and they have agreed to do another tour in 2005. In the meantime, they will be doing two special concerts in 2004 in England ; Parkgate (Wirral) 9th Sept. and the folk club in Westhoughton (at the Golf Club) on 24th Sept.
